My name is Peter Zelewski. I am 62.

In 1988 I was diagnosed with Churg-Strauss. As a consequence I had to give up my profession with all its travelling to other countries.

I was offered a new job in an office in Hamburg's port. Cortison and medication for Asthma helped me to get along. In 1994 my condition worsened.

In the meantime I had been treated in the vasculitis-specialized ward in Bad Bramstedt Clinic. Here the physicians diagnosed a worsening of the condition of my heart. Even Endoxan given on a daily basis did not help against the constant pain which seemed to be caused by my illness. In 1995 Alpha-Interferon was suggested, in Germany a new medication at that time which had not yet been tried on CSS-patients. Since then I have been injecting Alpha-Interferon three times a week and my body seems to respond quite well. I am in remission at the moment. In 1994 the Vasculitis-Support-Group roofed by Deutsche Rheuma-Liga was founded at Bad Bramstedt Clinic. I have been a member from the very start. Our aim is to give concerned ones as much information and support as possible. I will continue to be an active member in the "Working Committee Vasculitis"
