Secondary Effects

Hypertension

Blood pressure became elevated significantly during the first year on prednisone. The Cardiologist managed this using a combination of an ACE Inhibitor, a Beta Blocker, and a Calcium Channel Blocker. The Beta Blocker we learned later was a potential contributor to leg arteries constriction but the Cardiologist insisted that it was good for her so she continued to take it at his insistence. Pressure was maintained at a low normal level through most of her illness; her heart remained strong and functioned well. She endured no strokes - beyond the original loss of vision - or aneurysms.
